Herbal medicine on a film set as a chance to detox your life – take this natural quiz ;-)

What is “herbal medicine”?

Herbal medicine uses the medicinal plant effects to heal the human body and soul. The type of plants which are in use for herbal healing treatments depend upon the cultural region and, in general, the portfolio of healing substances is extensive.

If you want to know more about the details of plants which are being processed in  any herbal treatment, please refer to

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_plants_used_in_herbalism

to get more information about chinese alternative medicine in general.

It is astonishing, that herbal medicine enjoys widely acceptance in Asia and Africa as an equal alternative to artificial pharmaceutics. This is because artificial pharmaceutics are mostly expensive and many people can`t afford the “modern medicine”.

Would there be a greater use of pharmaceutics in the Asean and African area if available on a lower budget? Maybe. But I think a part of these societies has a greater acceptance for the fact that natural ingredients can sustainably heal. There is a rich tradition to heal with plants and to rely on the medicinal power of natural substances. Why isn`t it believable in our regions?

I think the difference is that our western culture is strongly influenced by the pharmaceutical industry. Take this quiz and you know what I mean (please comment if you have more examples):

What comes to your mind, when you want to free yourself of a headache?

a)      Aspirin

b)      Gingko

Gingko for example can stop a headache and even helps to stop migraines on a natural basis.

What do you have in stock at home if you get a cold?

a)      An artificial fluid in a bottle or a citron powder to mix with hot water

b)      Echinacea, Pelargonium, Thyme, Sage or Ginger

The lifestyle of my grandparents

Well, my grandmother would know the answer, because she grew up with this natural wisdom. Actually it is funny that our grandparents still believed in the effect of medical herbs, and that we don`t so much anymore. Where does this disbelieve come from? It is just a few years ago that people really needed to rely on natural medicine (and it worked up to a certain point), even in our western society.

Can we agree on one aspect? Good that we found out about penicillin (some years ago… ;-) ). Some diseases in the past and today never could have been cured without the related pharmaceuticals. But I think a lot of the daily small or big aches could be cured with natural medicine. In the end this would mean that you take in less chemicals and that you detox your body a bit more.

You on a film set with natural medicine? Hmmm…

If you are on a film set or in a rush, most probably it is more easy to get an Aspirin then Gingko, and a migraine pill helps more quickly than any other herb from mother nature. But in the end it is about accepting a lifestyle alternative which respects the effects of natural medicine and integrates it into our lives again.

There is a large community of people, steadily growing, who follows the trend « back to the roots ». This means more tipps and tools, and a growing number of natural medicinal books and green therapists, are available to help you living a more natural life. Even if you can`t dedicate your life as an actor to a eco-path of living to the fullest, you might want to use the health advantage of a more holistic lifestyle. It starts with your own fresh herbs on your balcony or in your garden, with a fresh peppermint tea in the afternoon and trying to understand, which natural medicine might help in which (emergency) case. Just try it from time to time and see, if there is something about it. For sure it is a highly interesting topic, and you will walk on a greener and more healthy path. I think it is worth it!

Please give me feedback on your thoughts on my blog, jensbaltrusch.com !

Have a healthy week, Jens Baltrusch

Spa Beach workout part 1: Aqua exercises in the pool and the sea

Training in water is one of the most effective and healthy forms of training. The body weight in water is a fraction of the normal weight on the firm ground, which relieves the joints and back. As a result, any form of training in the water is suitable for all ages and levels of training. In a gentle way, it activates the entire body and strengthens the muscles.

In the following section, I will introduce the training with paddles and a water belt.
